The Mountain Forest Bedroom

Taking inspiration from the dramatic mountain forests of Scotland, the aim was to replicate the experience of climbing upwards, reaching the peak, gazing over the misty tree tops as sunlight softly breaks through the branches.

Working within a moody colour palette of charcoal, smoke grey, olive, fog white and walnut, we mixed scandi styles with mid-century modern to create a soft weightless Icelandic influenced space.

After discussions with the owners on how they would use their aspirational bedroom …… Somewhere for him to chill and play the x box, somewhere for her to paint her nails and watch tv. Somewhere bright and energizing for them to get dressed, and of course, a huge super king size bed to make them feel as though they were sleeping on a cloud. Therefore 3 spaces were established: Sleep + Relax + Dress.

By following the architecture of the room, the ‘relax’ area was positioned within the eves, with walls and ceiling painted in a deep khaki green to surround and enclose and give the feeling of warmth and comfort.

To define the ‘dress’ area the room divider was born, a floor to ceiling wooden structure painted black, designed to replicate tall slim trees in a forest where the quality of light is ethereal and dramatic. This divider throws beautiful shadows across the room and allows sunlight to filter through softly in the mornings.

I particularly love the gorgeous suspended black pendant at the side of the mid-century walnut bed frame, softer textures of the reindeer hide against pops of brass and the walnut and brass dressing table which backs onto the room divider. And you absolutely cannot go wrong with beautiful grey herringbone wood flooring to draw the eye into the space.

This bedroom is the perfect peaceful retreat away from the hussle and bustle of family life below.
